Sagacious Consultants’ Second Annual International Excursion: Ireland!

In a group over 30 strong, Team Sagacious explores the rich heritage of Ireland. From experiencing the taste of a “real” Guinness beer to gazing off the majestic Cliffs of Moher, our 2012 excursion did not disappoint. There was something on the trip for everybody, and our explicit itinerary was ideal for keeping such a large group all on the same beat. I must add that our tour guide, John, showed us great insight and hospitality throughout the trip as he spoke with his stout, Irish voice with an abundance of Gaelic flare.

We started off at the Dublin airport with a lot of luggage and jetlag. After eating breakfast at the historic Man O’ War (defined as Middle of the Road in Gaelic) restaurant and pub, we felt somewhat recharged and were en route.

Of course, this is Europe, but aside from driving on the “wrong side” of the road, culture shock was slim-to-none. The Irish lifestyle is laid back, clean, and the people are polite. Perhaps, the overall lack of chaos was what I found most welcoming.

Being my first visit in Ireland, I was shocked by the vast fields and lush foliage throughout the countryside. Livestock and potatoes are a staple to the livelihood of the Irish. Great scenic views and hospitable people had me feeling more like I was driving through the Carolinas than Europe. We stopped at various historical places of interest, such as Clonmacnoise, Blarney Castle (Kiss the Blarney Stone) –to name a few. Just when you think you’ve experienced Ireland, just wait until you see the Dingle Peninsula or the Cliffs of Moher…absolutely magnificent!

Of course this trip would not have been complete without enjoying the nightlife as well. Regardless if our group outings, designed to get to know your co-workers, were entwined with ulterior motives of getting the true taste of local, Irish brews, I feel collaboration and synergy was at its best!

Speaking on behalf of our group, the trip was a success and probably even more fun than expected! On a personal note, I thoroughly enjoyed reacquainting with all my buddies and colleagues as well as putting faces to the names of those I haven’t previously met. The only problem with this trip is, how will we “one-up-it” next Spring?

Cheers!
